Every story shared brings us closer to answers. We'll post what we learn here as each study moves forward.

Treatment outcome analysis

Every affected dog has been through a different treatment journey, and together those experiences can show us what's working best. We're asking all owners to share the treatments their dog has had so far and how they've responded.

We'll pool every submission into a systematic review, so owners and vets can see which approaches are making the biggest difference.

The system is currently being built and will be available soon, for everyone to participate in. In the meantime, this guidance is available from David Williams,  Veterinary Ophthalmologist and PhD in Ocular Immunology at the University of Cambridge, Queen's Veterinary School Hospital.

Histopathological analysis of lacrimal tissue

Examining lacrimal (tear gland) tissue under the microscope could help us uncover the underlying cause of these cases. Veterinary ophthalmologist Professor David Williams at the University of Cambridge is leading this study, which is awaiting ethical approval. Once it's granted, if your dog is due to have surgery of any kind, you can give permission for a small tissue sample to be taken at the same time. No extra procedure would be needed, and taking part is entirely your choice. You can submit your request to be involved here.
