Are Eggs Good for Dogs?

In short? Yes, eggs are good for your dog!

You see, they just so happen to be one of the most complete natural protein sources available. That means they provide your pup with:

  • High-quality protein to support muscles

  • Essential amino acids (the building blocks of your dog’s body)

  • B vitamins for everyday energy

  • Healthy fats to support skin and coat health

For most healthy dogs, eggs can be a brilliant addition to a balanced diet. That even goes for raw eggs too if that’s part of your feeding approach.

But, when it comes to feeding them to your pup, the key is balance. These brilliant bites are to be viewed as a healthy supportive extra to your pup’s routine, not a replacement for their complete food.

Can Dog’s Eat Eggshells?

We love a good fun fact at Years, and this is one that surprises a lot of dog owners.

Not only can your dog eat eggshells, but they’re naturally rich in minerals that support your pup from the inside out. We’re talking highly bioavailable calcium, along with magnesium, potassium and, even more impressively, the thin inner membrane contains naturally occurring joint-supporting nutrients, including glucosamine, chondroitin and collagen.

Small shell. Surprisingly mighty.

Why Make Homemade Egg Bites Instead of Buying Treats?

You can't beat a bit of convenience - we get it! But many shop-bought dog treats are heavily processed, packed with fillers, and surprisingly calorie-dense for their size.

Making these egg bites at home gives you:

  • Full control over ingredients

  • No unnecessary additives

  • A soft, fresh alternative to dry biscuits

  • A treat that actually contains meaningful nutrition

How Many Egg Bites Can Your Dog Have?

Eggs are nutrient-dense, so moderation still matters.

As a general guide:

  • Small dogs: ½ an egg bite

  • Medium dogs: 1 egg bite

  • Large dogs: 1–2 egg bites

Adjust depending on your dog’s size, activity level, and daily food intake. Even healthy treats should fit into your dog’s overall nutrition plan. And don’t forget, if introducing a new food to your pup, do so slowly over the course of 7-10 days to reduce the risk of digestive upset.

If you do happen to notice any adverse reactions, contact your vet.
